Unfolding meaningSoma-significance
The intention for this project was a daily drawing practice from Spring Equinox to Autumn Equinox. Acknowledging that Spring and Summer are associated with creative, playful, outward energies, I sought an intentional ‘unconscious’ daily creative practice, curious about what might reveal itself. The experience almost instantaneously became about consciously capturing what felt most significant about each day, allowing me to draw further inspiration from David Bohm’s notion of soma-significance.
“The notion of soma-significance implies that soma (or the physical) and its significance (which is mental) are not in any sense separately existent, but rather that they are two aspects of one over-all reality…In fact, without meaning I think there would be no consciousness. Meanings have emerged from experience, emotion, relationship, place, reading and art. The meaning within the meaning is the joy of the practice itself. At Autumn Equinox, a point of balance before we turn towards the dark half of the year, I have returned to the beginning and now begin a process of reflective writing, curious what emerges at the dialogue point between each image, as a representation of the mirror opposite points of the wheel of the year.
