Worm Time Dialogues

Whilst the philosophy of Worm Time emerged in Summer 2022, the Worm Time Dialogues workshop series began with Spring Equinox 2025. Becoming a practice of collective Worm Time, these workshops aim to support participants to reimagine their relationship to time, shifting from pressures of continual productivity, to being part of the ebbs and flows of nature’s cycle.

What is a Worm Time Dialogue

The dialogue aspect of the practice draws on Bohm Dialogue, a facilitated listening practice that allows groups to deeply co-inquire together, share meaning and create new thinking.

The dialogue and focus for each workshop centres around the Wheel of the Year, the eight solar and seasonal festivals of the Northern Hemisphere.

Together, the Worm Time Dialogue practice is an invitation to slow down; come together with others; pay attention to nature's rhythms; and listen and connect with the energy and wisdom available to us at these particular markers of time in the year’s cycle.

What happens in a Worm Time Dialogue

The practice begins with simple creative framing exercises designed to cultivate curiosity and stimulate deeper thinking that can be explored in more depth during the dialogue. These often take the form of word associations and listening in pairs.

The dialogue itself is practised in a circle. A handmade centrepiece provides a visual, symbolic Wheel of the Year guide for participants to draw inspiration and further meaning from.

The process requires deep listening that allows for inquiry into what is important to individuals and the group; allowing a ‘flow of meaning’ to emerge.

Why we need Worm Time Dialogues

Like the magically complex world that exists in the soil under our feet, allowing ourselves creative rest, is the time for the invisible ‘work’ to take place. The integration of our outer and inner worlds, that provides fertile ground for new meanings to emerge.

Worm Time Dialogues cultivate creative and emergent thinking and community connection, and provide ways to activate the personal agency and collective resilience needed to find hope and shared meaning in our current times.

Creative rest can take many forms. It may be a walk in nature, a creative activity, a movement practice. You will recognise it for yourself in your own way; an experience of gentle presence; flow; mind-body-spirit connection; an unfolding and enfolding of yourself, nature and the cosmos; an intentional and cultivated space for reflection and creativity, for new thinking to emerge, and the recognition and letting go of old thinking that no longer serves you.

What makes Worm Time Dialogues unique, is the invitation to take part in collective creative rest. The burdens and suffering of the world are too much for any one individual to bear, and similarly joy is an act of co-creation. The dialogue process provides a space to collectively hold and co-enquire into the full experience of what it means to be human.

“Spring had always been a period of intense hope and joy for me, but this year felt different and I struggled to make meaning of it. Hearing others describing this period of transition as a vulnerable and fragile time helped me reframe it for myself and find grace. ”

“What stayed with me is an increased belief that co-creation, co-making of meaning is an intrinsic part of what it means to be human. One that has been depreciated by the individualistic/ capitalistic society I’ve grown up in. The richness and depth of the dialogues felt like experiencing a different possible path. A path or an aspiration to co-creation I have been talking about in my work and life but one I had not lived. ”
